Albion Online: Three Suggestions for Traders

Cross-posting this from General. Trader could be an actual profession that you gain fame for and benefits from. The three suggestions below represent the basis of allowing traders to gain fame and albion online silver for travelling with goods and how the skill tree could benefit them.

Trade Flagging

In towns or friendly territories a player can flag as a Trader, similar to flagging for PvP. While flagged as a trader they cannot gain fame outside of a town or territory or manually flag for PvP but gain a speed bonus on the Ox and a further speed bonus on roads. Attacking someone flagged as a trader will give a debuff that increases your damage taken from anyone who isn't flagged as a trader. This means people defending a trader will deal extra damage to those attacking them or encourage attackers to try to deal with any guards before attacking the trader. Territories can "Allow Traders", allowing non-guild traders to enter their territory and utilize their auction houses, the benefits of this I do not know, but it seems like a fun idea and opens up the world to many various trade routes.

Packages and Fame

There can be a fame tree for trading. A trader can place goods in a menu in town and click "Pack Goods" to create a trade item, e.g. "Goods from Tormouth". Essentially a package that can be opened in a town. The package will weigh as much as the goods packed inside and it will be impossible to fast travel in any way with a package. It will also not be possible to leave town with a package unless you are flagged as a trader. This has two purposes. One, stealing a package is much harder, as it may weigh a lot, meaning that bandits would need someone capable of carrying the package. Second, it creates a system where goods must travel manually and the origin is set (In the example, Tormouth). Once a package is opened in a town, it can award fame to the Trade tree for how far the package has travelled from the origin town to the town it is being opened in with bonus fame for more dangerous zones. It would also take the contents and your current trade level into account (i.e. you won't gain much as a high level trader carrying basic resources through safe zones).

The trade tree could, for example, allow you to use Crafting Points to reduce auction tax. For a pure trader, who does not craft, this would increase their profit margin without impacting anything else, while a crafter might want to save those points. It could also give discounts on the tax when purchasing items. Advanced trading levels could give you a better overview of supply and demand of towns you have recently been in.

Repairing & Other Bonuses

Traders could gain additional functions when not in a town. The developers have been saying they'd like to implement the ability to repair outside of a town. One option would be allowing players flagged as traders to act as repair stations for a fee. As for other bonuses these could be developed with the idea being that a Trader is not just someone travelling from one place to another or a target for PvP, but also a source of other useful interactions outside of a town. They could convert trash items into silver, split between them and whoever gave it them upon reaching town. They could allow additional passengers on their mounts as guards or for those who have lost their mounts (with an option to set a fee for those getting on). They could carry special packages for the upcoming destructible forts and such that offer special addons and benefits. There are so many options for this profession.
